Art is a powerful tool to capture the world through our
perception of it. Art Brut allows to do it with totally freedom of norms or rules
of artistic education. Drawing techniques and combination of colors arise in
the instinctive and natural way and follow the own criteria of the artist.
Nowadays it is difficult to stay totally isolated from the Art and Culture, our likes are influenced by trends and movements, but Artists of Art Brut manage to keep their particular and recognizable core.
This picture proves that.
The main character is a woman with a saber. This is the
first layer of information. It is unusual way to represent a woman, she uses a
weapon, probably because she has to protect her children.
The second layer of information is represented by decorative
elements, like birds, flowers, a caterpillar, a spider, etc. Iñaki loves the
nature, for this reason it is very present in his drawings.
The third layer of information is made up by words, numbers
and symbols, not necessarily related to images. The author uses indistinctly words
in Spanisn, Valencian end English. This tendency to occupy all space is known as
“horror vacui”.
Iñaki is not afraid to use the pen, is not afraid to make mistakes. The lines are thin and stylized. The effect achieved only by two colors is impressive, but is possible, as this is not final version of this drawing. Often, after some time, Iñaki returns to the drawings to give them a touch of color.
