The shadow of the water (La sombra del agua)
The artists’ works are very recognizable. Analyzing several works you can detect common elements, which reflect tastes and preferences of the author.
The artists
of Art Brut experiment with the instruments which they master well. In Iñaki’s
case we are speaking about pen, pencils and felt tips.
Iñaki
studied road engineering. Although he couldn’t finish his career due to the
circumstances of life, the passion for buildings and roads is very present in
his work.
In this drawing,
called “La sombra del agua”, “The shadow of water”, we can observe a very
interesting building.
Despite of
presence of a beautiful fountain, we understand, that the name “The shadow of
water” is the name of the building, due to the blue elements in its facade,
roof, doors and windows.
As in another
drawings, in this one, we can observe a particular Iñaki’s way of representing movement,
space and volume.
The
movement of the water in the fountain is represented by wavy lines, by drops and
splashes.
Iñaki plays
with space and volume in every element of this drawing, using lines and colors.
The flat appearance
of the tree, represented by undulating line, contrasts with the volume of the
building, represented mainly by straight lines.
The color
is presented as a unifying element, which coheres all the components of the
drawing. Grey, brown, blue and, especially, green, which found its reflection
even in the fountain.

Looking for information about the evolution of Art Brut in the world I have come across a very interesting article in The Art Story. I’ll leave it here, in case you’re interested in this subject.
